Resident's veggie garden success

For many of our residents moving to any nursing home would mean giving up a garden.
However, here at Inglewood, we are fortunate to have plenty of space in our grounds for our keen gardeners to get planting. 2011 is proving a bumper year, as our salad and vegetable crops come to maturity.

It has been an enjoyable and fruitful project for some of the residents producing a potted vegetable garden. This year we have also provided raised planters with wheelchair access, so anyone who wants to get involved can.

Fish & Chips by the sea!

In June what could be nicer than Fish & Chips by the Sea, then a brisk stroll to work off the "calories"  on the promenade!

Staff and residents of Inglewood Nursing Home, Eastbourne, enjoyed a wonderful trip out  and were lucky and to have glorious weather while enjoying the fresh sea air recently.

Housekeeper reaches 20 years service

We are very proud of our long serving staff at Inglewood Nursing Home. Not only do we have a dedicated team, we like to think we are a good employer.  Our House keeper Sue Ellis must think so, as she celebrates 20 years continuous service at Inglewood Nursing Home on 2nd July 2011. Sue joined Inglewood on 2nd July 1991 as a Laundry Assistant, when Inglewood was a much smaller Nursing Home.

In 1997 she was promoted to Head of Laundry and in January 2005 became Head of Housekeeping and Laundry. Canford Healthcare was delighted to retain Sue's services when it became the owner of Inglewood Nursing Home. Inglewood has now been sensitively extended, and refurbished under Canford Healthcare and we are delighted that Sue has stayed  to manage the housekeeping team.

Sue was born in Eastbourne in and has been married to Kenny for 30 years. They have 2 daughters and a 3 year old grandson.

Sue was presented with flowers, a Gift Voucher, a bottle of her favourite tipple and a card.

The Residents and staff were delighted when on Tuesday 3rd May 2011 a delivery of 11 eggs arrived at Inglewood for hatching.  The eggs came with incubator and brooder box.  We watched during the day with anticipation and each time we looked the eggs had moved.

During that first night one chick, named 'Oz' (by the night staff) hatched and by the morning a further three had pecked their way out, to the delight of our early morning residents to the Day Room.

Inglewood Nursing Home, Eastbourne started their Royal Wedding Celebrations several weeks ahead by making hats to wear on the day, making table decorations and putting up lots of Union Jacks.

Residents and staff members at Inglewood Nursing Home were encouraged to participate by wearing anything Red, White and Blue and reminisced of Royal Weddings past.

A Street Party style lunch was enjoyed - the menu was Coronation Chicken, Jersey Royal new potatoes  and English salad, with Apple Pie and Custard. Celebrations finished with a champagne toast to the Royal Bride and Groom as they kissed on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

Everyone oohed and ahhhed at the dresses and much chatting and laughter was heard throughout the day.

Many thanks to all staff and the activities team at Inglewood Nursing Home for making this an extra special day for everyone.
